SAR publishes its updated MEMS Speaker study

SAR recently published its update on the MEMS Speaker market, one of the key changes in this edition is that the previous forecast expected the MEMS speaker market to take off in 2021 but this has been delayed by approximately 1 year.

Although there has been a delay in the market ramp, MEMS speaker vendors have been very busy developing new products, and preparing manufacturing, ready for the growth period.

Today, there are five main MEMS speaker companies: Arioso, Audio Pixels, SonicEdge, USound and xMEMS. M&A activity is starting to impact the market, with Bosch recently purchasing Arioso.

SAR Insight estimates that more than four billion devices were shipped equipped with speakers in 2021. This equates to seven billion speakers shipped globally, for use in multiple device types in sectors ranging from headphones to cars. These speakers are predominantly ‘dynamic speakers’ which use an electromagnetic coil to move a diaphragm to create sound

The MEMS speaker market is expected to take off in 2022, with volumes and revenues growing at a CAGR greater than 120% over five years.
