On July 2nd Tesla announced its second-quarter results, revealing that it had produced almost 480,000 vehicles and delivered over 466,000 vehicles throughout the quarter. This was an all-time record with deliveries up 10% from Q1’23 and almost 83% higher than the same quarter in the previous year.
Tesla’s deliveries have increased rapidly over the past 3 years, surpassing 500,000 units annually in 2020 and reaching more than 1.3 million units in 2022, up 40% from 2021 when it delivered 936,000. Deliveries are typically higher in the second half of the year and if they reach the 33% increase Tesla achieved in 2022 in the second half compared to the first half, deliveries could just about tip over the 2 million mark.
According to SAR Insight & Consulting’s latest update of its eMobility Market Tracker, a little over 11 million battery electric passenger cars are forecast to ship in 2023. If Tesla achieves over 2 million deliveries in 2023, its market share will increase to almost 19% of global shipments.
