NFC Forum Calls on Product Designers to Accelerate Use of NFC Wireless Charging

The NFC Forum, a leading standards body for Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, has launched an educational campaign encouraging product designers to incorporate wireless charging capabilities via NFC. The NFC Wireless Charging Standard (NFC WLC) is tailored for smaller personal and IoT devices than other wireless charging standards such as Qi from the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). NFC WLC offers wireless charging up to 1 watt over a 2 cm distance, with ongoing efforts to enhance both power and range, although other companies such as Nucurrent have pushed NFC wireless charging beyond this.

This drive by the NFC forum for more product designers to make use of NFC wireless charging is intended to push the standard mainstream will accelerate market growth if successful. Currently, the market for NFC wireless charging is still very small with only a few mainstream products on the market. This campaign by the NFC Forum should help introduce the technology to product designers who may not have otherwise been considering using the technology. SAR Insight & Consulting covers the wireless charging market including the market for NFC technologies as part of its Wireless Power and Charging Technologies service.
