Earlier this year, SAR released a commentary on the announcement from Renesas about their impending acquisition of Panthronics AG, a fabless semiconductor company that specialises in NFC technology, including NFC power transfer. Renesas have now announced that this acquisition was completed as of June 2, 2023. Renesas has also announced 13 solution designs that combine Panthonics’ NFC technology with Renesas’ products.
The completion of this acquisition marks a step forward for NFC power transfer, especially with the announcement of 13 new solution designs featuring NFC technology. It is likely that Renesas will continue to release additional designs and that these will spur further adoption of NFC wireless power transfer across its extensive customer base.
