Turtle Beach’s gaming earbuds

Turtle Beach announced a new pair of gaming focused earbuds on March 14th that will be available for order on the 21st of March. The biggest surprise here is that the new earbuds, despite being targeted at low latency gaming, do not include Bluetooth 5.2, and therefore also do not include LE Audio. The new Bluetooth protocol can be fine-tuned to work at very low latencies, below that of the lip sync value of around 20-30ms where the audio and video are perceived to sync up perfectly.

It is worth considering that the Turtle Beach may be planning to release on updated version within the next year or so that includes LE audio and LC3 and simply want to be one of the first companies with TWS devices centred around gaming. SAR believes that while low latency over Bluetooth becomes more plausible, these devices will become increasingly population and gaming modes may even be added to traditional TWS earbuds as a part of the move to multi-use case earbuds/headphones.

SAR’s published study covers  Gaming Headsets.
