Broadcom ships one billion Wi-Fi 6 and 6E chips

An amazing achievement by Broadcom, which clearly demonstrates the appetite for improved Wi-Fi connections. The inclusion of the 6GHz band (as well as other improvements) has led to “six times faster upload speeds, four times faster download speeds, four times better coverage and seven times better battery life than the previous Wi-Fi standard”, according to the article.

The advancements in Wi-Fi are helping to improve many other solutions, for example:

  • It is leading to much improved audio synchronization across more multi-room speakers, over longer distances. Enabling higher resolution audio to be streamed with less (or no) dropouts.
  • It is enabling more products to have in-built voice assistants, with less latency.
  • It is also making devices more efficient, thus leading to more portable devices using Wi-Fi for audio and voice streaming.

Exiting times for Wi-Fi and all the other technologies that it enables.
