After 4 years of development, the Humane Ai Pin will become available to purchase from November 16th. This wearable device is aimed at replacing a smartphone as the primary way for people to access knowledge and interact with others, with AI at the heart of what it does.
The press release states “Ai Pin redefines how we interact with AI. Speak to it naturally, use the intuitive touchpad, hold up objects, use gestures, or interact via the pioneering Laser Ink Display projected onto your palm. The unique, screenless user interface is designed to blend into the background, while bringing the power of AI to you in multi-modal and seamless ways.”
For an overview by Imran Chaudri, this Ted talk is very interesting. Imran Chaudhri: The disappearing computer — and a world where you can take AI everywhere | TED Talk. He describes the experience as “Screenless, Seamless, Sensing” and provides several examples of what Ai Pin can make possible. He finishes the talk with this quote “The future will not be held in your hand, and it won’t be on your face either. The future of technology might almost be invisible”.
I’ve talked in the past about what comes next in terms of consumer interaction with technology, my view remains that the smartphone is not going to be the main consumer device in the long term. A more discrete solution is needed, and I have expected this to be an advanced ear worn device, perhaps a combination of discrete devices is the solution?
