Samsung Releases the Galaxy Smart Ring

On the 24th of July, Samsung released its latest wearable product, the Galaxy Ring. Retailing for $399, the Galaxy Ring provides 24/7 insight to your health, monitoring your heart rate, sleep patterns, body activity, and more. Its discreet design is ideal for those who would like to track their health, but don’t want to wear larger smart watches, especially when sleeping.

The specifications for the Galaxy Ring include:

  • Accelerometer
  • Heartrate sensor
  • Skin temperature sensor
  • Wireless charging
  • Battery life of up to 7 days
  • Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity
  • 10 ATM water-resistance

The Galaxy ring has many stand-out features which aren’t present on other smart rings in the market. For example, double pinch gestures, which can be used to control your phones camera or snooze an alarm, this is thanks to the built in accelerometer. Likewise, Samsung has implemented Galaxy AI to improve its monitoring features and provide greater health insights, like the AI enhanced sleep algorithm. However, like most smart rings in the market, there is a lack of haptics in the Galaxy Ring, which is surprising considering the nature of the product.

Whilst this is Samsung’s first smart ring, other brands like Oura and Ultrahuman have been leaders in the market for many years, especially Oura, who have been developing smart rings for almost a decade and were the first company to pioneer this new line of wearable health technology. This past year we’ve also seen companies like AIZO, BoAt, Gloring, and Amazfit release their own rings, indicating a promising future for the growth of the smart rings market.

SAR Insight is currently developing a report for smart rings which will be available in the coming weeks, featuring information like shipment data, brand profiles, market shares and much more. Please get in touch if you are interested in the brief and we’ll be happy to provide you with more information.
