DeepCharge develops universal wireless charging

DeepCharge has developed a smart charging technology that claims to remove some of the most difficult challenges related to wireless charging. DeepCharge claim that the technology will be able to charge everything from smart phones and laptops through to power tools and industrial robots. A power supply fitted beneath a table or desk with supporting hubs would in theory be able to charge any devices placed on the surface of the desk/table. The DeepCharge device would also be able to charge multiple devices of different types simultaneously.

At its most basic, the DeepCharge technology is a loosely coupled (resonant) inductive charging solution that is compatible with the industry standards from both the Wireless Power Consortium and the Airfuel Alliance. This interoperability has been seen before, as have ability to charge through surfaces and the capability to charge multiple devices at once. The interesting claim of the DeepCharge technology is the capability to identify different devices and direct the appropriate amount of power to each. SAR predicts that the key challenge will be adoption by existing end-device manufacturers who have already adopted and are compliant with a single standard, particularly if any additional BOM/certification costs will be required.

SAR has forecast the market for all major wireless charging technologies in their Wireless Power and Charging Technologies report.
